An educational institution providing all levels of scuba instruction from basic open water for the novice diver, through advanced and specialized diving, all in the proper assessment, deployment and management of recreational scuba, all the way through the complexities of underwater rescue & recovery operations.
Scuba instruction and certification is made up of three easy components. The first is an e-learning course which is completed in your home environment in front of your computer at your instructional pace. The second component is confined water training which can be completed in your personal backyard pool or indoor/outdoor pool facility. The final phase is open water checkout dives at the Jersey Shore or an Instructor Universal Referral can be obtained that allows you to complete your final checkout dives in an underwater environment of your choice i.e., vacation spot.

Eric Kerecman
President and Owner of Public Safety Diving, LLC, Eric Kerecman was born and raised in Monmouth County, New Jersey and has dedicated his life to civil service and public safety diving.
Eric was able to capitalize on his water related abilities early-on in life, through both swimming competitively and lifeguarding on the New Jersey beachfronts. This eventually led to a full swimming scholarship, where Eric was a nationally ranked swimmer at Monmouth University. In 1988, with his love for the water, Eric entered the underwater world by completing his YMCA Open Water Scuba Certification prior to his graduation in 1990 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice.
In February 1993, Eric was hired by the Township of Ocean Police Department in Monmouth County, New Jersey, as a police officer and was immediately recruited for a position within the police departments’ Scuba Unit as a diver.
In 1994, Eric pursued certification through the New Jersey Police Training Commission (NJPTC) and now certifies all police recruits in Water Safety Instruction, which is mandatory for successful completion and graduation from the academy.
In 1997 the Scuba Units’ commanding officer retired and left the team to Eric’s care and guidance. As the team leader, Eric oversaw the day to day operations of the Scuba Unit that includes yearly budgets, grant applications, training and standards, mission scheduling, equipment purchasing and maintenance, and upkeep and revisions to unit SOP’s/SOG’s.
In 2008 Eric explored greater opportunities and engaged in employment with the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office as a detective with the Major Crimes Unit where one of his tasks was to consult and provide guidance in criminal cases requiring underwater searches.
In 2018 Eric retired after 25 years of combined law enforcement service and is still presently providing instruction for the Monmouth County Police Academy’s recruits and seasoned officers as the lead water safety instructor. He still actively teaches scuba on both an individual and group basis, and he remains the team leader for the ANSWER Dive Team.
