ERDI – Surface Ice Rescue Ops Component
Course Overview: The Emergency Response Diving International Surface Ice Rescue Ops Component is designed to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for surface ice rescue operations within the public safety diving arena. This course is tailored to rescue / recovery oriented personnel but is open to non-emergency service personnel as well.
Course Topics: This course is comprised of three parts; classroom, confined water skills and evolutions, and open water skills, evolutions, and realistic scenarios. Topics discussed are:
– Site Size Up
– Preparation
– Gear Configuration
– Surface Ice Rescue Procedures
– Self-Rescue Procedures
– Shore Rescue Maneuvers
– Line Tending
– Ice Sling Rescues
– Ice Sled Use
– Ice Pole Techniques
– Victim Handling Concerns
Course Schedule: This course is offered during the winter months where ice is present and can support rescue operation scenarios. Please email or call for a current schedule or to set up training for your PSD unit.
Course Prerequisites: 18 years of age, must complete EDRI liability and medical release waivers. Students must have a drysuit or ice rescue suit, and be familiar with its use. Students may share suits; minimum two (2) suits per six (6) trainees.
Course Length: Class duration is two (2) full, 8-hour days. The first day is dedicated to classroom and surface ice training. The second day focuses on surface ice evolutions and scenarios.
