ERDI – Underwater Crime Investigation Ops
Course Overview: The Emergency Response Diving International Underwater Crime Investigations Ops Component is designed to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for underwater crime scene investigations that are tasked to the public safety diving team. This course is tailored to rescue / recovery oriented personnel but is open to non-emergency service personnel as well.
Course Topics: This course is comprised of three parts; classroom, confined water skills and evolutions, and open water skills, evolutions, and realistic scenarios. Topics discussed are:
– Crime Scene Recognition
– Witness Interviewing
– Risk / Benefit Assessment
– Last Seen Point / Where to begin
– Search Patterns
– Line Tending / Recording Statistics
– Environment / HAZMAT
– Site Documentation (photography, scaled diagrams, videography)
– Chain of Custody
– Evidence Preservation
– Report Writing / Courtroom Preparation and Testimony
Course Schedule: Courses are provided on a year round basis. The only prohibiting environmental factor is ice. Please email or call for a current schedule or to set up training for your PSD unit.
Course Prerequisites: 18 years of age, ERDI – PSD Level I certified or equivalent*, CPR and CPR OX certified, and must complete EDRI liability and medical release waivers. Scuba equipment is required for successful completion of this course. Itπs preferred if students have drysuit, and full face mask w/ comms.
Course Length: Class duration is two (2) full, 8-hour days. The first day is dedicated to classroom and confined water training. The second day focuses on open water training evolutions and scenarios.

* Public Safety Diver training from a recognized training agency – PADI, NAUI, Dive Rescue International, LGS, etc.
