NITROX Diver
Course Overview: This course is the entry-level certification course for recreational divers wishing to utilize enriched air NITROX (EAN) as a breathing gas. The objective of this course is to train divers in the benefits, hazards, and proper procedures for using NITROX mixes from 22% to 40% oxygen content. Graduates of this course will:
– Be able to engage in diving activities utilizing EAN-22 to EAN-40 without direct supervision.
– Be qualified to enroll in Advanced NITROX, Decompression Procedures, and Semi-closed Rebreather Course.
Course Prerequisites: Students must be 15 years of age, minimally hold a basic open water certification, and complete and sign liability and medical waivers.
Course Schedule: This course is taught throughout the year.
Course Length: The NITROX diver certification can be completed in as short as one, 8-hour day, but normally encompasses two, 4-hour sessions of instruction. The course is made up entirely of classroom learning (history, theories, formulas, and tables). A written test is administered at the end of the classroom session. No open water dives are required, but may be elected at the student’s choice for an additional, minimal fee.
